  2. How can I apply for the programmes?

Applications are invited from candidates through the newspapers by the Academic Registrar Makerere University for degree programmes and the School Registrar MUBS for the Diploma programmes.


  • Pick application forms from Academic Registrar’s Office, Senate Building Makerere or from the School Registrar’s office at MUBS
  • Pick Makerere University paying-in bank slips for STANBIC or DFCU Banks
  • Pay application fee of Shs. 20,000/= plus bank charge of Shs. 2,500/= (STANBIC) or Shs. 2,000/= (DFCU)
  • Attach a copy of the paying-in slip to the completed application form and submit to the undergraduate admissions office in Makerere or to MUBS for Diploma programmes.
  1. What is the duration of the programmes?

a). Undergraduate programmes – 3 years

b). The diploma programme shall normally extend over a period of two years not exceeding a maximum of four years.

Number of length of the semester

Each year of studies will have two semesters of seventeen weeks each; 15 weeks for teaching and two weeks for examination and the whole course will be covered in four semesters.

  1. What are the minimum admission/entry requirements?

Admission requirements for Undergraduate programmes:

  1. Posses the Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent and at least two principal passes at Advanced level obtained at the same sitting. For Day programmes, only a candidate who sat A’ Level in December 2007, 2006 and 2005 is eligible and for Evening, Afternoon and External programmes, a candidate is not restricted on the year of sitting A’ Level.
  2. Hold at least a Second Class or credit (or equivalent classification) Diploma from a recognized institution, relevant to the programmes applied for.
  3. Be a graduate from a recognized University

         Admission requirements for Diploma programmes:

Admission to the First Year is through any of the four avenues:

  1. Direct entry
  2. Certificate holder’s scheme
  3. Professional qualifications
  4. Entrance admission examination

For admission to any diploma course under;-

  • Direct entry scheme

A candidate must have:

  • Sat the U.C.E Examination (or equivalent) and obtained a certificate in it, and

(ii)          Obtained at least one advanced level principal pass and one subsidiary pass at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.A.C.E)

  • Certificate holders scheme

A candidate must hold:

  • i). A Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) and a certificate in business studies with at least 5 passes obtained from different stages of the certificate in business studies offered by UNEB or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • ii). A certificate in Business Studies of the Makerere University Business School or any of the Uganda College of Commerce and former NCBS or a certificate in any field of study obtained from a recognized institution.

(c) Professional qualifications

The applicant should have pass of at least ½ of stage/level one of the professional qualifications from a recognized or its equivalent provided this is passing by examination.

(d) Entrance Admission Examination

This will be open to prospective applicants who completed formal education at least primary or secondary but have not attained additional qualifications to enable them gain admission through schemes a) – c) above.

Admission to the second year

Admission other than to the first year of the programmes shall require a special resolution of the School Academic Board.
